Having recently completed a diploma in garden design at Inchbald School of Design, I am working on freelance projects and looking at working in a studio to further my learning and career in the horticultural world.
Before beginning my Diploma, I spent nearly three years at Greenstone Landscaping & Horticulture, leading small teams on private garden projects from initial groundworks through to planting. That role gave me a properly practical understanding of construction methods, levels and setting out, as well as plenty of experience reading design drawings and liaising with clients and contractors on site. I learnt a huge amount working in London; however, I felt I was lacking the plant knowledge I wanted, so I spent six months working under Head Gardener Mat Reece at Malverleys near Newbury, which considerably deepened my plant knowledge and gave me a real appreciation for how a garden is managed over the long term, not just designed on paper.
